How to Eat a Donut

There is a reason why you are exhausted and feel hungry every 90 minutes. There is a reason why you are craving a glass of wine at night and baked goods around 2pm.

Today I get to share with you how to have your fun, and still obtain optimal health for longevity.

But first, allow me tell you a bit of the science to educate you on why this is so important (and to put my masters degree to good use):

When you eat a simple carbohydrate like a bagel, or something sweet like a donut, your glucose spikes and then drops.

It leads to a process called glycation where a sugar molecule binds to a protein or lipid molecule which impairs the function of these molecules.

The more often your glucose spikes the more glycation happens which leads to a loss of protein function and impaired elasticity of tissues…

In short it makes you feel and look older and is terrible for your skin. Sadly it also contributes to diabetes and other age related diseases and causes havoc on your body.

This does not mean you never get to eat a donut or have your favorite burger!

It just means you need to learn how to eat your treats.

There will be fun, there will be travel, there will be fancy dinners out with friends, birthday parties and BBQs…

Here are 4 tips you can start implementing to lower your glucose spikes when you are having a treat and enjoying your summer fun:

  1. Never have sweets on an empty stomach. Eat something healthy first then eat your treat.

  2. Follow this proper food sequence: veggies first, then protein and fat, then your starches and sugar last.

  3. Before you have your treat, have a tablespoon of vinegar with a cup of water. I use Bragg's' apple cider vinegar and drink it with a straw to make it go down easier. They make a to-go size as well which is great for travel. I also take this supplement and I find it great to keep my blood sugar more stable.

  4. After you have your treat be sure to move your muscles afterwards. You can do this by planning your treat before your workout, going on a walk or stretching after you eat.

Doable right?

I want you feeling strong and healthy in your day. In order to KEEP THAT LONGEVITY SWITCH TURNED ON so you look and feel good, you must be mindful about the amount of simple carbohydrates and treats you are consuming.

Here are the most common signs that you are experiencing glucose spikes in your day and consuming too much sugar for your body to absorb:

  • You have food cravings

  • Experience brain fog or fatigue

  • Have Acne

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and you are wanting to increase your health span, energy and strength then try out the 4 tips above and start implementing them into your routine.
