Home Workout Essentials
Create a happy environment to workout at home
Make your space great and get all the fun toys you need for a strong workout! Even if you are planning to workout indoors again, having a space in your home that you enjoy working out and the equipment you need is so important!
So if you have not done this already, now is the time. Don’t wait any longer.
Okay let’s get shopping!!!
Here are a few pieces of equipment that I think are essential for a home workout routine (in order of importance). If and when I start outdoor classes, we will not be sharing equipment, so it is essential that you start purchasing some toys so that you are able to continue to progress and stay strong.
Weights: A set of light free weights 3 - 5 Lbs, a set of medium free weights 8 - 12 Lbs and a least one heavy weight 15 - 20 Lbs. The heavy weight can be a kettlebell or free weight. (Adjust and buy the weight as needed for your strength level).
I would usually send you to Target, Power Systems or Rouge Fitness for these items, or your local, Fitness Superstore, in San Rafael. However, many of these are out of stock at these online locations, and your local shop is only taking orders over $300 while there is a ‘shelter is in place’. So you may have better luck just going to Amazon until the SIP is lifted.
Resistant Loop bands: Loop bands are great for lower body resistance training and for upper body strength as well. I recommend getting a set of light, medium and heavy. I like the TRX brand (use link below) but you can also find them on amazon.
In addition, I like the fabric loop bands as well for when I do squat exercises and knee stability workouts (when placing the band above the knees). Really great for the booty! Here is the brand I have but any will do.
Next up: Get yourself a TRX. It’s time! I will be adding TRX classes to my online workouts and it’s a great piece of equipment to own. You can take it anywhere and no matter what your fitness level or what your goals are, you can get in a strong workout. I am a brand ambassador so if you use this TRX link and enter this code at check out you will get 20% off purchase: TRX20LIV
*Tips: Get both types of loop bands (rubber and fabric) not one or the other. Also if you are planning to purchase the TRX bands and TRX suspension trainer do so in one purchase with the discount link and code.
Foam roller: Standard long version. You may already have this and misplaced it, or maybe it was collecting dust and you threw it out when you were purging. Find yours or buy another one. It’s a great tool to use for core strength and exercises on your back. I will start adding these into your workouts online.
Other fun toys: Bosu, Stability ball, Yoga strap, Yoga block. (These items are not necessarily but if you want one, buy it, and I will have you use them during your workouts.)
Make A nice space for yourself to workout
Whether it’s in your garage, your bed room or living room, create a happy environment you are excited to come to to move.
Things that make your space more enjoying:
A really nice yoga mat! Check here for inspiration.
Or an exercise mat that looks like a rug. Really great if you have young kids or if you use your space for multi purposes. This is the one I have.
Candles: for a happy relaxing vibe.
A good speaker system. Sonos and Bose are my favorite brands to blast my tunes.
Tips for online viewing live or recorded classes
Whether you are training with me live or getting recorded workouts to do at your own time, put me on a bigger screen. Your cell phone will do, but if you have a laptop, tablet or can airplay me on the big screen, your viewing experience will be much better.
Blast some good tunes. I make a playlist for all of my workouts I send you. You can follow me on Spotify under the profile Oliveyah Fisch. Use a separate device to play music so that you are feeling motivated and inspired during your workouts. Plus you know I love to have you “dance it out” to recover so make it fun and put some tunes on.
